Jeff McDonald
Presents

Jeff McDonald's fourth album is titled The Great Road and includes a whopping 20 songs. "I think this is the best album yet because of the incredible group of backing musicians I used. I've tried to play all the lead guitar parts in the past, and though I'm pleased with them, the lead lines Kenny Taylor added to some of these tracks just takes the production to a whole new level. He's as good as Andrew Hardin, who used to play for Tom Russell--just amazing. Chet Chambers, who has played piano, keyboards and bass on all my albums, does an incredible job here too. The album was recorded at Sweetwater's new world class studios, and the sound quality is just superb. Three friends also sang on some songs with me, and I think the album just has a nice, Americana feel to it."

"At the same time we finished The Great Road I went in and redid five of the songs on My Name Is McDonald that I wasn't happy with the production on before. I think now that album stands up strongly with the other three."

Jeff will be launching his own website soon, and says that the Sweetwater Records site mentioned in all the album jackets will be up and running in the next few months. "I plan for now to release just a few songs at a time down the road on Sweetwater Records for downloading because I'm going to turn my attention to finally finishing my novel and recording a new album with two other members of Kingston Crossroads Discussion Board. I can't tell you yet who they are, but I'm excited about doing a 'trio' type album--it's amazing what can be done today over the internet."

Jeff McDonald grew up watching his older cousin (who later became his step dad and who appears on this CD) play a four-string Silver Bell banjo, doing old songs from the 1920s and '30s. This was the spark that got him thinking about playing and performing ... and then The Kingston Trio came along and put his thoughts into action. He's been playing acoustic music ever since, both as a solo artist and in a number of bands, and is probably best known to readers of
The Kingston Trio Place as one of the members of the back-up band at Fantasy Camp. Jeff has shared the stage with a number of his folk idols over the years, including John Stewart, Paul Stookey, Roseanne Cash, Nanci Griffith, Roy Orbison, the late Steve Goodman, the late Bob Gibson, Pat Alger, Sally Fingerett, Christine Lavin, Tom Paxton and The Kennedys.
